Health is influenced by a complex and interconnected web of physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors. For this reason, integrated mind and body care — care that addresses both mental and physical health — is essential for improving health outcomes and overall quality of life for patients.

What is mind and body care?

Mind and body care is a holistic approach that ensures individuals receive comprehensive, patient-centred care that acknowledges the full spectrum of health determinants. However - despite the well know benefits of integrated mind and body care - inequalities, inconsistencies in care delivery, and considerable unmet needs are impeding its wider implementation. These barriers need to be addressed, so mind and body care can become the standard, not the exception in healthcare.

How can we implement mind and body care?

The Mind & Body Improvement Network aims to address barriers to healthcare by bringing together professionals who want to contribute to cultural change in healthcare. People who join the Network become Mind & Body Champions and are empowered to promote holistic care practices in their fields. The Network supports professionals to deliver effective mind and body care through knowledge-sharing sessions and professional development opportunities. Champions are also given access to educational, wellbeing and development resources.

The Mind & Body Share and Learn sessions are another part of the Mind & Body Network offer. The online events are open to all, and the final session of the year will take place on Monday 2 December. The next session will be delivered by Mind & Body Clinical Director, Dr Mike Dilley, and will focus on brain injury. Attendees will learn about the complexities surrounding brain injury, including causes, diagnosis, and treatment. The event series takes place on Microsoft Teams and registration to join the next Share and Learn session is now open.

How do you join the Mind & Body Network?

The Mind & Body Improvement Network invites healthcare professionals, service users, and stakeholders to join the movement towards integrating mind-body care. To join the Network search ‘Mind and Body’ on your NHS Futures account and sign up.
