The King’s College London Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is launching a new series of short courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Principles for Diabetes which will start in September 2023.

This course consists of two modules which will take place online. The first, over six weeks, is open for enrolment in September 2023 or January 2024. The second, also over six weeks, will launch in April 2024.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Diabetes is designed for professionals working in, or planning to work in diabetes clinical services, such as nurses, doctors, GPs, allied health professionals such as psychologists, dieticians and occupational therapists.

The course will deliver practical, intensive and detailed training to provide an understanding of the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) model and its applications to diabetes. Teaching content will be provided in the form of videos, audio files and written information that you will engage with in your own time, and you will have the opportunity to implement the skills learnt each week in online teaching sessions, using role plays and simulations.

We have worked together as a multidisciplinary team to design this exciting package of learning to help you to bring cognitive behavioural theories and techniques into your clinical work. This will enable clinicians to use CBT communication skills and behavioural interventions like behavioural experiments to help people living with diabetes find new ways of relating to diabetes, carrying out diabetes self-care and managing the distress they experience, for example, around worries about insulin or long-term complications. We will help you to develop high quality skills to enhance your clinical practice and help you to measure your competency to support you reflect on how to develop further in your own clinics.
