Three former Fellows of a King’s Health Partners (KHP) leadership programme have spoken in glowing terms about their time on the course.
The Executive Fellowship in Surgical Leadership, run by KHP Academic Surgery, is a full-year programme teaching leadership as the process of implementing positive change in dynamic, volatile or complex environments.
Anyone wanting to register for the 2025 cohort should do so by Tuesday 10 December. For more information on how to apply, visit the webpage here.
Amenah Galo [pictured, centre], a plastic surgery registrar at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS FT, said she liked the interactive nature of the course, both with the programme leaders and other participants. Amenah found the sessions on innovation particularly interesting. She said:
The project I'm working on now is software that helps plastic surgeons and their patients to have more visualisation of post-operative results.
This course has helped me understand how to develop ideas into projects, and it’s inspired me to work through more project ideas. I would really recommend this course for anyone wanting to strengthen their leadership skills.
Aaditya Sinha [pictured, left], a senior surgical trainee in the south London Deanery specialising in oncoplastic breast, is undertaking a doctorate at King’s College London. He said:
This fellowship is a holistic approach to understanding how to manage and lead within the NHS. We start off with three different components, one being clinical research, which is an essential aspect of us improving within our services. We undertake research and present it internationally to try to get it published.
Aaditya enjoyed the sessions with senior NHS staff members to learn how they would approach certain situations. He added:
The course allowed me to discuss cases with my peers and colleagues, to learn how we would approach some things differently.
Benedict Phillips [pictured, right], a kidney and pancreas transplant registrar at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS FT, wanted to do the course to ‘really fine-tune’ his management leadership skills. He said:
If you want to up your game as a leader and clinician who manages their own department, then this Fellowship is exactly what you're looking for. It really does give you the confidence and provides you with some of the expertise necessary to be a leader in your own field.
The Executive Fellowship in Surgical Leadership teaches participants to innovate, lead responsibly, and navigate change to transform their own clinical practice and leadership.
It boasts a faculty with real-world med tech, entrepreneurship, and leadership expertise, and offers a flexible course structure to suit full-time clinicians.
The unique programme frames leadership through the perspective of four key domains:
- risk and crisis management;
- innovation and entrepreneurship;
- diplomacy and people management; and
- systems design and culture creation
