KHP News is excited to announce that Prof Emma Duncan – King's College London, Professor of Clinical Endocrinology, and Joint Director for KHP Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity – has been elected President of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASMBR). Prof Duncan is the first European to be elected to this role.

The ASBMR is the leading professional society for musculoskeletal disorders internationally, uniting and supporting clinicians and researchers in this key area of medicine. Emma brings to this role her keen interest in bone and neuroendocrine disease, with extensive clinical and basic research in this field, along with her previous leadership, mentorship, and governance experience from her work with multiple endocrine and bone societies around the world.

Emma’s plans for ASBMR include:

  • Strengthening national and international cooperation with like-minded societies (including patient-support groups);
  • Promoting member participation and pride in the global bone community;
  • Improving basic and clinical science integration.

She also sees this as an excellent opportunity for promoting collaboration between the ASBMR and UK and European bone and endocrine communities – and of course within the KHP community as part of her role as KHP Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity clinical academic partnership co-clinical and academic director.

Emma says,

The ASBMR’s membership is its greatest strength. Together as a society it is within our gift to find and implement actionable solutions to the post-pandemic challenges - championing vibrancy and scientific excellence; actively promoting diversity; rebuilding personal connections after so much digital isolation; and using our resources strategically towards meeting our collective mission: translating basic science into new therapeutic developments to improve the lives of individuals with bone-related disorders world-wide.
