In the United Kingdom, your postcode and ethnic background shouldn't determine the quality of your diabetes care - yet they often do.

While diabetes affects people across all communities, Black, African, and Caribbean populations face persistently higher risks and poorer outcomes. The Diabetes Africa UK Forum emerged as a direct response to these troubling disparities, with a clear mission: to transform diabetes care for Black communities across Britain.

Following the success of its groundbreaking 2023 event which united over 100 healthcare professionals, decision-makers and community leaders in London, the 2024 Forum sets an even more ambitious agenda: advancing equity in diabetes care for Black populations. Once again, the event is backed by KHP Diabetes Endocrinology and Obesity (KHP DEO).

The 2023 forum sparked crucial conversations that resonated deeply with healthcare providers. From exploring barriers to diabetes technology adoption to promoting cultural humility in care delivery, each session challenged attendees to rethink their approach to treating diverse patient populations.

On November 28, 2024, Diabetes Africa will once again transform Coin Street Conference Centre into a hub of innovation and change. Also backed by Diabetes UK and the Caribbean & African Health Network - the forum will gather leading healthcare professionals to tackle pressing challenges in diabetes care for Black communities.

This year's sessions dig deep into often-overlooked aspects of care:

•    How do you spot foot complications when traditional "red flag" signs present differently on dark skin?
•    What cultural considerations should guide diabetes care during pregnancy?
•    How can healthcare providers better understand the role of African and Caribbean foods in diabetes management?
•    The forum will also address the persistent stigma surrounding diabetes in Black communities.

The 2024 Diabetes Africa UK Forum is not a medical conference – it's a movement toward healthcare equality, led by healthcare professionals, researchers and community leaders. Last year's event demonstrated the power of bringing together committed professionals to address systemic inequities in diabetes care. This year's forum, with its expanded scope and strong institutional support, promises to push these vital conversations forward and inspire concrete action. Don't miss your chance to be part of this transformative event.
