Ten recipients of the KHP Centre for Translational Medicine Pre Doctoral Clinical Research Excellence Fellowships (CREF) have been announced.

This scheme offers one year pump-prime funding to allow protected research time and training for health professionals working in translational medicine. During the year, Fellows will develop external funding applications to support doctoral research.

Congratulations to:

  • Dr Anangsha Kumar – Use of advanced MRI techniques to detect fetal inflammation - a potential antenatal tool to predict risk of neonatal necrotising enterocolitis;
  • Eitan Mirvis - Investigating tumour-intrinsic mechanisms of resistance to anti-BCMA CAR-T cell therapy in multiple myeloma;
  • Holly Boyd - Biomarkers and mechanisms of spontaneous resolution of food allergy in childhood;
  • James Sun - Identifying novel therapeutic targets to optimise the regenerative capability of the liver in Metabolic dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD);
  • Katherine Chin - Identifying fundamental mechanisms of skeletal muscle ageing in older men undergoing Androgen Deprivation Therapy;
  • Manpreet Sagoo - Prediction of severe psoriasis: development of an integrated clinical and genetic stratification tool to predict those at risk of severe disease in adults with psoriasis;
  • Marium Naqvi, pharmacist - Utilisation of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to support the adoption of home monitoring for patients with interstitial lung disease;
  • Victoria Butterworth, clinical scientist - Risk stratification of head and neck cancer patients using deep learning radiomics to predict recurrence;
  • Wiaam Al-Hasani - Pancreatic dopamine signalling in schizophrenia and the effect of antipsychotics: a pilot study;
  • Yevedzo Ntuli - Targeted manipulation of the gut microbiome using bacteriophages to develop a ‘first in-human’ study to treat chronic liver disease.

The Centre for Translational Medicine brings together the organisations of King’s Health Partners and generous funding from the Guy's and St Thomas' Charity to work in partnership to improve the health of people locally, nationally, and globally, accelerating targeted, sustainable and more equitable health outcomes for patients and communities across south east London and beyond.
